Power Flushing

Don’t ever overlook the important aspect of Power flushing if required. In my opinion it is one aspect above all others within a central heating system that can vastly improve the efficiency of an existing central heating system thus reducing gas bills. It is a service that eazyplumb can provide for existing central heating systems and is carried out as a priority prior to the installation of all new boiler replacements. This is due to the damaging effects that magnetic sludge deposits can do to a new/ replacement boiler.

Are you suffering any of the following?

  • Is the system slow to heat up?
  • Are some radiators completely of partially cold?
  • Do some room spaces remain cold?
  • Does your boiler make ‘Kettling’ noises or cut out regularly?
  • Do you have frequent circulation pump failures?
  • Typical central heating circulation pump

If your central heating is suffering from any of the above mentioned then you may benefit from a Power Flush. Why not give us a call where we will be happy to advise you further. Please read on and learn more!

What are the benefits of a Power Flush?

  • Eradicates poor circulation problems
  • Restores heat output to radiators thus increasing the efficiently
  • Restores the efficiency of heat transfer from boiler to radiators
  • Cleans the whole system including the boiler, pipe work, radiators, F & E tanks
  • Removes aggressive/ abrasive / corrosive sludge deposits which damage pumps, valves, boilers, and pipe work
  • Can reduce or prevent boiler noises
  • Power Flushing is a very effective method of cleansing carried out in one visit with very little disruption

What is Power Flushing?

Kamco Quantum C90 power flushing machine

Power flushing is an expressions used to denote the process by which heating systems are forcibly cleansed using water at high velocity, but low pressure, so that no physical damage is caused to the system. The process can be made even more effective with the addition of powerful cleansing and mobilising agents such as FX2 and HYPER-FLUSH. The objective is to restore systems with circulation and boiler noise problems (caused by sludge and corrosion deposits) to optimum operation. Power flushing removes these deposits and the problems that they cause.

Power flushing is also an excellent way to pre-commission clean new heating systems, to remove excess flux, swarf and other debris, and the grease and oil used to prevent rusting of components before use. It is prudent to power flush a heating system immediately before fitting a new boiler to an existing system to prevent possible future problems. Many systems are found to contain corrosion and sludge, even if no flow problems have yet shown themselves. Existing debris is often mobilised by alterations to the system/piping and the increased efficiency of the new boiler, and may then accumulate in the boiler heat exchanger, causing noisy operation, reduced efficiency and, in extreme circumstances, failure of the boiler. The high efficiency and compactness of modern boilers, developed to minimise fuel costs and pollution, means that they are more susceptible to problems caused by debris in the system water.

Be Aware! – Fact: in the last year alone I have attended 2 boiler break downs which have been installed by other local company’s and for legal reasons I will not mention. The Heat Exchangers on both boilers had failed catastrophically due to the result of being installed onto an existing central heating system that had not been Power flushed. Heat exchangers on new condensing boilers become blocked by the magnetic sludge/ particles which can result in irreparable damage. In one case the manufacturer refused to repair the boiler due to the evidence of magnetic sludge debris & the Benchmark being completed incorrectly. A new boiler was installed after the central heating system had been power flushed, which was the most cost effective option due to the expensive nature of parts and labour concerned!

The Clearflow power flushing process is a versatile, easy to use and highly effective method of flushing heating systems. By utilising Clearflow system flushing pumps, to which we use no other than a Quantum C90, heating systems can be purged of sludge, scale and corrosion deposits with minimal dismantling and disruption.

Our Guarantee – A Power Flush is carried out on all existing central heating systems prior to installation of new boilers by ourselves. Power flushing is a service that we can provide to improve efficiency on an existing central heating system.

How Does it Work?

The Kamco Quantum C90 power flushing pump is connected into the heating system, preferably across standard circulator pump couplings, or across the tails of one radiator, The powerful flow, combined with instantaneous flow reverser device, will dislodge and mobilise deposits and corrosion which resist traditional system cleaning methods. Once the corrosion and sludge deposits have been loosened and mobilised, fresh clean water is forced through the heating system, pushing the contaminated water out through a full bore dump valve to waste. During the process, radiators are individually flushed, without removing or disconnecting them from the system, by directing the full output of the pump through each radiator separately. At the end of the flushing process, the system contains fresh clean water and reinstatement of the system to normal operation takes only a few minutes. System flushing will not remedy design or mechanical faults, which should be rectified, but in many cases it will cure the problems caused by these.
